My poor husband closed the car door on his thumb while on a business trip in Germany. It was still throbbing 10 hours later so he went to the medical center where they put a small hole in the nail to relieve some of the pressure. Of course the poor thumb could no longer be put in a pocket or his gloves.
The saying is true, he did stick out like a sore thumb.

I'd like to think I was sticking out because I was ridiculously well-dressed... but it probably was the thumb :)
